Terms of Service

Last updated: draft, not yet published.

This is a working draft, not our published policy.

It's written to accurately describe what this product actually does or is designed to do today, but it has not yet been reviewed by counsel, and several details are still being finalized. Do not treat this page as legally binding until that review is complete and this banner is removed.

What these terms cover

These terms govern your use of Hmong Network — the business directory, the marketplace, and the community features (events, Bold Beginnings, reviews, the on-site chat assistant). By creating an account, claiming or adding a business listing, buying or selling in the marketplace, or otherwise using the site, you agree to them.

Hmong Network is a directory and marketplace platform. We connect customers to independent, Hmong-owned and Hmong-serving businesses — we're not a party to the interactions or transactions that happen off-platform (a phone call, an in-person visit, a purchase made directly through a business's own website).

Accounts

You need an account to claim or add a business listing, buy or sell in the marketplace, leave a review, book an appointment, or RSVP to an event. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account.

We may suspend or restrict an account that violates these terms, is used for fraud or abuse, or accumulates enough policy-violation signals to trip an automated guardrail (spam reports, flagged reviews, chargebacks, and similar). A suspended account can appeal — see the notice shown on a suspended account's dashboard for how.

Business listings

Adding or claiming a listing is free. We may list a business we believe is Hmong-owned or Hmong-serving even before its owner has claimed it, so it can start accruing genuine customer leads — see our Business Listing Policy for the specifics of what that means and how ownership is verified.

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information in a listing you own — name, address, hours, description, photos. We may edit, correct, or remove listing content that's inaccurate, that violates these terms, or that's the subject of a resolved report, and we may suspend, restrict, or remove a listing for cause.

The marketplace

Sellers list products for free; we deduct a percentage-based commission from the sale price only when an item actually sells (see our Refund & Returns Policy for what happens to that commission on a refunded order). Payment processing is handled by our payment processor — we never see or store your full card number.

A sale in the marketplace is a transaction between the buyer and the seller. Hmong Network facilitates the payment, routes funds to the correct seller, and provides dispute and return tooling, but the seller is responsible for the accuracy of their listing, for fulfilling orders, and for the quality of what they sell.

We may pause or remove a product listing, or a seller's ability to sell, for policy violations, repeated disputes, or fraud.

Content you submit

Reviews, messages, listing descriptions, marketplace listings, event submissions, and Bold Beginnings nominations are your own words. You're responsible for what you post, and it must be accurate, must be about a real experience or business, and can't be harassing, discriminatory, or fraudulent.

We moderate reported content and may remove anything that violates these terms. Automated guardrails may also flag or hold content (see the messaging and account-moderation systems) pending review.

Some tools on the site (business description drafting, review-reply suggestions, article drafting) use AI, spending credits you've purchased. AI-assisted content is still your responsibility to review before it's published — the underlying facts have to come from you, not be invented by the tool.

Sponsored placement and advertising

Businesses may purchase sponsored placement (boosted search position, a badge, a homepage banner) or run ads through our AdSense integration. Sponsored placement is always disclosed with a visible badge or label — it never replaces or hides another business's genuine listing.

Intellectual property

Hmong Network's own branding, design, and site content belong to us. Content you submit (a listing description, a review, marketplace product photos) stays yours, but by posting it you grant us a license to display it as part of operating the site.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The directory and marketplace are provided as-is. We don't guarantee the accuracy of every listing (particularly one an owner hasn't yet claimed and corrected), the availability of any business, or the outcome of any transaction. To the extent permitted by law, Hmong Network isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.

Termination

You can stop using the site and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account for a violation of these terms, consistent with our account moderation and appeals process.

Changes to these terms

If we make a material change, we'll update this page and, where required, notify affected users directly.
