Hmong-Owned Businesses in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has 7,715 residents identifying as Hmong alone or in combination. That is approximately 0.19% of Oklahoma's total population and 2.16% of the total U.S. Hmong population, ranking Oklahoma sixth nationally.

The Tulsa metro is the state's primary Hmong population center. Tulsa County is represented by roughly 3,855 Hmong households in Congressional District 1 data, while Northeast Oklahoma communities around Miami, Pryor, Grove, and Vinita include an estimated 409 households.

The first Hmong families arrived in Tulsa in November 1976: three families sponsored by First Lutheran Church at 13th and Utica as part of post-Vietnam War refugee resettlement. The community's history is therefore nearly five decades long, even as much of it has remained underrepresented in statewide population summaries.

The Hmong American Association of Oklahoma (HMAAO), founded in 1979 and based at 19400 E 630 Rd in Inola, provides cultural preservation, language classes, funeral support, and the community's flagship New Year celebration.

Signature gatherings include the Oklahoma Hmong New Year at the HMAAO grounds in Inola, Hmong Cultural Day at Hannah Hall in Tulsa, and Tulsa's 918 Day Festival, where Mi Naib Dance has represented Hmong culture. These events connect families across Oklahoma, create space for language and cultural transmission, and provide important vendor and small-business opportunities.
