Project Hmong Children's Books
Pang Hlub Xiong was born and raised in Wisconsin to a family who highly valued education.? Because of poverty and war, Xiong's parents did not have the opportunity for a formal education, like many others from their generation. However, they instilled the importance of education and invested wholly in their children's education. Xiong is a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her Master of Literacy Education degree from Hamline University, where she was also the recipient of the 2014 Educator Award. ?Xiong was also awarded the 2014 Exemplary Educator by the National Association of Multicultural Education in Tucson, Arizona. Xiong has taught kindergarten through third grade in the Twin Cities Metro area. Xiong currently resides in the Twin Cities with her husband and young children. Project Hmong Project Hmong came into fruition in 2011 to create literature representing Hmong people and Hmong culture. The goal was to create authentic and developmentally-appropriate books that students'specifically her kindergartners and teachers can easily access.? The books were created with all students in mind—to empower Hmong students and to enlighten non-Hmong students. Over 15,000 copies have been sold and donated to children, teachers, schools and organizations across the country and around the world. We are so proud that some of our books have even been adopted into school curriculum. Now, Xiong's role as a mother is the inspiration for more bilingual books for young children.
